ORD 92-22 MILEAGE REIMBURSEMENT ORDINANCE No. 92 - 22
AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF BAINBRIDGE ISLAND TO
AMEND CHAPTER 2.60.10 OF THE CITY'S MUNICIPAL CODE
WHICH SETS THE RATE FOR MILEAGE REIMBURSEMENT.
WHEREAS, Chapter 2.60.10 ~f the Bainbridge Island Municipal
Code (BIMC) presently provides for the reimbursement to employees or
officials of the City for the use of their personal automobiles while
traveling on official business of the City; and
WHEREAS, that rate is now set at twenty-three (23) cents
per mile and that rate has not been increased since 1979 (a period of over
12 years); and
WHEREAS, the Finance Committee of the City Council has
recently completed a review of the expense reimbursement policies and
procedures of the City and recommends a self-adjusting process to determine
the City's mileage reimbursement rate, now, therefore,
THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF BAINBRIDGE ISLAND, WASHINGTON,
DO ORDAIN AS FOLLOWS:
SECTION 1. Chapter 2.60.10 of the BIMC shall be amended to read as
follows:
Any person representing the City in an official capacity shall be
reimbursed for the use of personal automobiles or other vehicles at a
rate equal to the rate allowed by the Internal Revenue Service of the
United States as a deduction for business travel costs. Reimbursement shall
only be allowed when the travel is performed in connection with officially
assigned duties and is for an approved public purpose.
SECTION 2. This ordinance shall be published in the official newspaper
of the City, and shall take effect and be in full force five (5) days after
publication.
