AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF BAINBRIDGE ISLAND,
WASHINGTON AMENDING THE PARKING REGULATIONS
THE CITY AN INCREASING THE MONETARY PENALTY FOR
PARKING VIOLATIONS.
WHEREAS, the penalty for parking infractions has not been increased since
i 98i despite a significant increase in the cost of living; and
WHEREAS, the present penalty of $10.00 is now insufficient to deter persons
from willfully violating the City's parking code; and
WHEREAS, the City Council wishes to encourage both citizens and visitors
to obey the laws of the City; now, therefore
THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF BAINBRIDGE ISLAND,
WASHINGTON DO ORDAIN AS FOLLOWS:
SECTION 1. Paragraph A of Section 10.08.250 of the Bainbridge Island Municipal
Code is amended to read as follows:
10.08.250 Penalties.
A. It shall be a traffic infraction for any person to permit or allow a motor
vehicle to stop, stand or be parked in violation of any of the provisions of this
chapter. The monetary penalty for violation of any of the provisions of this
chapter shall be $10.00 $30.00 for each such violation except (1) if any per-
son shall park a vehicle in a parking place provided on private or public prop-
erty reserved fpr physically disabled persons without a special license plate,
valid card, decal or other official mark, the monetary penalty shall be $175.00
for each such violation, and (2) the monetary penalty for overtime
parking shall be $20.00, and (3) if any carpcol permit holder violates any
of the provisions BIMC 10.08.070, the monetary penalty for the first violation
shall be $50.00, and the monetary penalty for the second and all subsequent
violations shall be $100.00. In addition to monetary penalties, a carpcol permit
holder violating the provisions of BIMC 10.08.070 on three or more occasions
shall have his or her carpcol parking privileges revoked for a period of one year
in accordance with BIMC 10.08.220B. Notice of traffic infraction shall be affixed
in a conspicuous place to the motor vehicle stopping, standing, or parking in
violation of the provisions of this chapter and shall be in the form approved by
the administrator for the courts. All monetary penalties shall be paid to the
municipal court of the City.
SECTION 2. This Ordinance shall take effect and be in force five days on and after
November 1, 1996.
