ORD 98-39 SETTING SPEED LIMIT IN PORT MADISONORDINANCE NO. 98-39
AN ORDINANCE of the City of Bainbridge Island, Washington,
setting a speed limit in Port Madison; adding a new section
12.60.65 to the Bainbfidge Island Municipal Code; and amending
the title of section 12.40.060.
WHEREAS, many property owners and small watercraft users value Port Madison for its quiet
and calm character; and
WHEREAS, Port Madison is becoming more congested with watercraft and the City Council
recognizes that dangerous conditions can be created by watercraft traveling too fast to respond to other
watercraft in the area; and
WHEREAS, if properly regulated, the Port can continue to be used by watercraft in a safe manner;
now, therefore,
THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF BAINBRIDGE ISLAND, WASHINGTON, DO
ORDAIN AS FOLLOWS:

Section 1.
12.40.65
A new section 12.40.065 is added to the Bainbridge Island Municipal Code as
Speed Limit - Port Madison
A. The speed limit throughout Port Madison shall be five knots, extending
out to 1/4 mile north of the Port community dock.
B. Violation of this section shall be a civil infraction punishable by a free of up to
$250.00 for each violation.
Section 2. The title of Bainbfidge Island Municipal Code section 12.40.060 is amended to
read as follows:
12.40.060 Speed Limit- Ea.~le Harbor
Section 3. This ordinance shall take effect and be in force five days from and after its
passage, approval, and publication as required by law.
