ORD 98-46 LEVYING GENERAL TAXESORDINANCE 98 - 46 AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF BA1NBRIDGE ISLAND, WASHINGTON, LEVYING THE GENERAL TAXES FOR THE CITY OF BAINBRIDGE ISLAND, IN KITSAP COUNTY, FOR THE FISCAL YEAR COMMENCING JANUARY 1, 1999, ON ALL REAL AND PERSONAL PROPERTY WITHIN THE CITY WHICH IS SUBJECT TO TAXATION FOR THE PURPOSE OF PROVIDING SUFFICIENT REVENUE TO CARRY ON THE NORMAL ACTIVITIES OF THE CITY FOR THE ENSUING YEAR AS REQUIRED BY LAW. WHEREAS, the City Council of Bainbridge Island has considered the financial require- ments of the City for 1999 as set forth in the Mayor's Preliminary Budget, and the amounts necessary and available to be raised by ad valorem taxes on real, personal, and utility property which are included therein; and WHEREAS, the City Council of Bainbridge Island has properly given'notice of the public hearing held on November 10, 1998, to consider the City's revenue sources for the C ity's 1999 current expense budget; and WHEREAS, the City Council of Bainbridge Island after hearing and duly considering all relevant evidence and testimony presented, has determined that the City does not need an increase in property tax revenue from the previous year, excepting an increase resulting from the addition of new construction and improvements to property, in order to discharge the expected expenses and obligations of the City; and WHEREAS, the property tax levy enacted by this ordinance is less than the amount levied in 1997 for collection in 1998, excluding the amount resulting from the addition of new construction and improvements to property, this ordinance complies with the provisions of RCW 84.55.120 without stating the amount of the levy and its increase in both dollar and percentage amounts; now, therefore, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF BAINBRIDGE ISLAND, WASHINGTON, DO ORDAIN AS FOLLOWS: SECTION 1. There shall be levied on all real, personal and utility property in the City of Bainbridge Island, Kitsap County, current taxes for the ensuing year commencing January 1, 1999, at rate of $1.4000 per $1,000 of assessed valuation. SECTION 2. This ordinance shall be certified to the proper Kitsap County officials, as provided by law. The taxes levied in this ordinance shall be collected and paid to the Director of Finance and Administrative Services of the City of Bainbridge Island at the time and in the manner provided by the laws of the State of Washington for the collection of taxes for non-charter code cities. SECTION 3. This ordinance shall take effect and be in force five (5) days from and after its passage, approval, and publication as required by law.
