RESOLUTION NO. 2025-15
A RESOLUTION of the City of Bainbridge Island, Washington,
amending Section 2.3 of Resolution No. 2023-01 to provide that the
naming of rooms, spaces, and facilities at the Bainbridge Island
Senior/Community Center are exempt from the City’s Policy on
Public Property Names and Name Changes under certain
circumstances.
WHEREAS, the City of Bainbridge Island owns the building and land located at 370 Brien
Drive SE, Bainbridge Island, Washington (‘the Senior Center Property”), and currently leases the
same to the Bainbridge Island Senior/Community Center (“BISCC”); and
WHEREAS, the City and BISCC signed that certain “Memorandum of Understanding for
Redevelopment of Senior Center Property” on May 17, 2024, which provides that BISCC will
design, construct, and operate a new senior and community center on the Senior Center Property
and will, upon completion of construction, convey the new senior and community center to the
City subject to a new lease and operating agreement; and
WHEREAS, the Memorandum of Understanding provides that BISCC will raise all funds
necessary to design, construct, and operate the new senior and community center; and
WHEREAS, BISCC intends to solicit funds from donors and desires the ability to offer to
name rooms, spaces, equipment, and facilities at the new senior center after donors as an incentive
for the donation of funds; and
WHEREAS, BISCC wishes to ensure that the City will honor naming agreements entered
into as provided in BISCC’s naming policy and the City Council has agreed to do so; and
WHEREAS, the City Council has determined to amend the City’s Policy on Public
Property Names and Name Changes, as adopted by Bainbridge Island Resolution No. 2023-01, to
accommodate BISCC’s request.
NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF BAINBRIDGE
ISLAND, WASHINGTON, DOES RESOLVE AS FOLLOWS:
Section 1. Section 2.3 of Resolution No. 2023-01, adopted by the Bainbridge Island City
Council on July 11, 2023, is hereby amended to read as follows:
3.The process and criteria for naming or renaming municipally
owned properties described in this policy do not apply to the
following types of property:
a.Historically registered properties for which a name has
been indicated on a nomination form and accepted for
use on a historic register, including property on the City

of Bainbridge Island, Washington State, or National
Registers of Historic Places.
b.Rooms, spaces, equipment, and facilities at the
Bainbridge Island Senior/Community Center, where the
naming is made to recognize a donation towards design
and construction on the property pursuant to a naming
policy of the Bainbridge Island Senior/Community
Center organization approved by the City Council.
Section 2. If any one or more sections, subsections, or sentences of this resolution
are held to be unconstitutional or invalid, such decision shall not affect the validity of the
remaining portion of this resolution and the same shall remain in full force and effect.
Section 3. This resolution shall take effect and be in full force immediately upon
passage.
