91-05 PROPOSAL THAT WINSLOW CHANGE ITS NAME TO CITY OF BAINBRIDGE ISLANDRESOLUTION NO. 9~- O.-4r A RESOLUTION of the City of Winslow, Washington, proposing that the City of Winslow's name be changed to the City of Bainbridge Island; directing that an election be held on the question of whether the City's name should be changed; and providing for recognition of historical names of places within the City. WHEREAS, on February 28, 1991, the unincorporated territory of Bainbridge Island was annexed to the City of Winslow; and WHEREAS, pursuant to Chapter 35.62 RCW and RCW 35A.21,140, the City is authorized to change its name; and WHEREAS, the City Council and the Mayor have determined that the public interest will be served by changing the name of the City of Winslow to the City of Bainbridge Island; and WHEREAS, the City Council finds that the public interest will be served by affirming and recognizing historical names of areas and places within the City; now, therefore THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF WINSLOW, RESOLVE AS FOLLOWS: WASHINGTON, DOES Section 1. The City Council proposes that the name of the City of Winslow be changed to the City of Bainbridge Island. Section 2. The question of whether the name of the City of Winslow shall be changed to the City of Bainbridge Island shall be presented to the voters of the City of Winslow at the general election to be held on November 5, 1991. Section 3. The proposition to be presented to the voters of the City of Winslow at the general election shall be in the form of a ballot title as follows: Shall the name of the City of Winslow be changed to the City of Bainbridge Island? Yes No 1011y/Lr/adt -- 1 -- Section 5. The City hereby recognizes and affirms the existence of the historical names of places and areas as indicated on the map attached hereto. The City shall take all appropriate actions to further the existence and public recognition of the historical names, such as including them on all official city maps. Section 6. The City Clerk is authorized and directed immediately after passage of this resolution to send a certified copy of this resolution to the Kitsap County Auditor and the Kitsap County Board of Commissioners.
