A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF BAINBRIDGE ISLAND,
WASHINGTON, URGING THE ADOPTION OF ADDITIONAL NATIONAL POLICIES TO
PROTECT THE ENVIRONMENT AND SUPPORT LOCAL AND STATE GOVERNMENTS IN
DOING S0.
WHEREAS, the City of Bainbridge Island,has shown local leadership in
the prohibition of non-biodegradable packaging materials and in
establishing Kitsap County's first curb~ide recycling program; and
WHEREAS, the City of Bainbridge Island recognizes the value of local,
state, and national co-operation in addressing complex issues such as
the environment; and
WHEREAS, worldwide attention is now being focused on human impacts on
our planet;
NOW, THEREFORE,THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CiTY OF BAINBRIDGE ISLAND,
WASHINGTON, DOES RESOLVE AS FOLLOWS:
Section 1.
We strongly urge the federal government to: .
Stabilize carbon dioxide emissions at 1990 levels
by the year 2000.
2. Increase energy efficiency and develop environmentally
sound and economically viable renewable sources.
3. Support the rebuilding of cities and public
infra-structure.
4. Protect and restore natural resources.
Develop national, accounting, tax, fiscal, and economic
policies that internalize the costs of pollution and
resource depletion and account for changes in ecological
capital.
6. Support principles of bio-diversity.
