92-01 RECOGNITION OF THE UNIVERSITY OF WASHINGTON HUSKIES AS THE NO. 1 FOOTBALL TEAMRESOLUTION NO. 92-01
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY OF BAINBRIDGE ISLAND WASHINGTON,
FORMALLY RECOGNIZING THE UNIVERSITY OF WASHINGTON HUSKIES
AS THE NO. 1, COLLEGE FOOTBALL TEAM IN THE NATION.
WHEREAS, the University of Washington Huskies soundly defeated
the Big 10 champion Michigan Wolverines in the 78th Rose Bowl; and
WHEREAS, the geographical representation of the Associated
Press sports writers is totally unbalanced to the eastern conferences;
and
WHEREAS, the University of Washington Husky football team
exemplifies the benefits of racial diversity; and
WHEREAS, winning the National College Football Championship has
absolutely no school or adverse environmental impact on Bainbridge
Island; and
WHEREAS, no Miami Hurricanes are expected to endanger the Puget
Sound Area; and
WHEREAS, at least three members of the Bainbridge Island City
Council is an alumnus of the University of Washington; now, therefore,
THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF BAINBRIDGE ISLAND, WASHINGTON,
DOES RESOLVE AS FOLLOWS:
Section 1. The City of Bainbridge Island be the first city in
the State of Washington to formally recognize the University of
Washington Huskies as the No. 1, college football team in the nation.
Section 2. The University of Washington Huskies be exempted
from the newly enacted City of Bainbridge Island animal control and
leash ordinances.
Section 3. Coach Don James and his entire coaching staff and
team be given a "high 5" for a job well done.
PASSED by the City Council this 2nd day of January, 1992.
