RES 93-39 WEEK OF OCTOBER 3, 1993 AS WASHINGTON ARCHAEOLOGY WEEKRESOLUTION NO. 93-39
A RESOLUTION of the City of Bainbridge Island,
Washington, declaring the week of October 3
through 9, 1993, as Washington Archaeology Week.
WHEREAS, Washington's heritage is culturally rich and diverse, as
represented by the numerous archaeological sites that have been identified and located
throughout our state; and
WHEREAS, archaeological sites are fragile and irreplaceable remnants of
over 12,000 years of human presence in Washington; and
WHEREAS, the interpretation of these sites can provide information leading
to better understanding between cultures; and
WHEREAS, respect for and protection of these sites is important to the
people of Washington and supports cultural and educational values; and
WHEREAS, many citizens of Washington contribute their time and efforts
to preserve and protect Washington's archaeological and cultural heritage; and
WHEREAS, the Office of Archaeology and Historic Preservation (Department
of Community Development) has joined with tribal nations, federal, state and local
agencies, local archaeological societies, universities and private citizens to enhance the
public awareness of the need of protecting Washington's archaeological heritage;
NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF BAINBRIDGE ISLAND,
WASHINGTON, DOES RESOLVE THAT THE WEEK OF OCTOBER 3 THROUGH 9,
1993, AS "WASHINGTON ARCHAEOLOGY WEEK".
