RES 93-37 OCTOBER 1993 AS NATIONAL ARTS AND HUMANITIES MONTHRESOLUTION NO. 93-37

A RESOLUTION of the City of Bainbridge Island, Washington,
declaring the month of October, 1993, as National Arts and
Humanities Month.
WHEREAS, the arts and humanities enhance and enrich the lives of all
Americans; and
WHEREAS, the arts and humanities affect every aspect of life in America
today including the economy, social problem solving, job creation, education,
creativity, and community liveability; and
WHEREAS, the National Assembly of Local Arts Agencies and a coalition of
42 national arts and humanities organizations representing over 23,000 cultural
organizations have formed the National Cultural Alliance to develop a multi-year
public awareness campaign on the availability and importance of the humanities
and arts to all Americans; and
WHEREAS, the campaign and its theme, •The Arts and Humanities: There is
something in it for you" will be introduced to the public in the Fall of 1993;
and
WHEREAS, the nations 23,000 cultural organizations, the National
Endowment for the Arts, the National Endowment for the Humanities, the nation's
3,600 local arts agencies, the arts and the humanities councils of the 56 states
and U.S. jurisdictions, and the President of the United States will be encouraged
to participate in this celebration and in the public awareness campaign; and
WHEREAS, the month of October has been designated as National Arts and
Humanities Month;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the City Council of the City of
Bainbridge Island declares the month of October 1993, as National Arts and
Humanities Month.
RESOLVED by the City Council this 7th day of October, 1993.
