RES 95-43 VETERAN'S DAY RECOGNITION Resolution 95-43 A RESOLUTION of the City of Bainbridge Island, Washington, recognizing Veteran's Day, November 11, 1995 to honor the men and women who have served in the United States armed forces. WHEREAS, in 1919 President Woodrow Wilson proclaimed November 11, Armistice Day, to remind Americans of the tragedies of War; and WHEREAS, a law was adopted in 1938, officially making November i1, a federal holiday; and WHEREAS, the Congress changed the name of the holiday to Veteran's Day in 1954, to honor all men and women who served in the United States armed forces; and WHEREAS, 1995 marked the 50th. anniversary of the end of World War II, one of the bloodiest wars in history; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED the City Council in passing this resolution hereby expresses its appreciation to and bestows honor upon those men and women who served in the U.S. armed forces in the many conflicts throughout the world in defense of our freedom and justice for all.
