RES 97-04 AUTHORIZATION TO MITIGATE CLEAN UP OF THE SITE OF THE 1/19/97 MUDSLIDE CITY
BAINBRIDGE ISLAND
RESOLUTION NO. 97- 04
A RESOLUTION of the City of Bainbridge Island, Washington, to authorize the
City to take the necessary actions to mitigate clean-up procedures at 11139
Rolling Bay Walk, the site of the January 19, 1997 Mudslide.
WHEREAS, due to the snow and rain storms of December, 1996, and January,
1997, Bainbridge Island is among the cities in Kitsap County which was declared a
federal disaster area by President Clinton and Governor Locke;
WHEREAS, the death of an entire family has occurred due to the mudslide;
WHEREAS, after the devastating effects of the mudslide, the damaged home
and debris present a potential hazard and distress to the community; and
WHEREAS, the City has elected to remove debris and the damaged personal
property.
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY OF BAINBRIDGE ISLAND:
Section 1. Due to the nature of this emergency, the City is authorized to
enter into contract and incur obligations necessary to mitigate such emergency to
protect the health and safety of persons and property, and provide emergency
assistance to the victims of such disaster.
Section 2. Any and all actions taken relating to this emergency clean up as
authorized by City, shall be ratified by the City Council of the City of Bainbridge
Island on February 6, 1997.
