RES 98-12 OPPOSITION TO MALICIOUS HARASSMENT IN THE CITYRESOLUTION NO. 98-12
A RESOLUTION of the City of Bainbridge Island, Washington,
reaffirming the City's commitment to multi-ethnic and multi-cultural
diversity; opposing malicious harassment in the City.
WHEREAS, the City of Bainbridge Island, is a community of many diverse
cultures and ethnic groups; and
WHEREAS, the attempt to discriminate against any of our citizens diminishes our
entire community and is contrary to the principles upon which this nation was rounded;
and
WHEREAS, diversity in the City has enriched the lives of its residents; and
WHE~AS, throughout its history, the City has supported and pursued justice and
equality for all persons, regardless of age, color, gender, national origin, sexual
orientation, economic stares, religious creed or disability; and
WHEREAS, the City has opposed discrimination, racism and prejudice, as well as
racial hatred and dissemination of racist documents in any form; and
WHEREAS, there has been an alarming increase in malicious harassment in the
United Stated, in the Northwest and in the Puget Sound region; and
WHEREAS, recent distribution of hate literature in the City and the surrounding
area underscores the need for vigorous opposition by the entire community to hatred,
harassment, and discrimination toward any individual or group; now, therefore,
THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF BAINBKIDGE ISLAND,
WASHINGTON, DOES RESOLVE AS FOLLOWS:
Section 1. The City encourages all segments of the community, including
schools, religious organizations, social service agencies, businesses, and community
groups, to actively oppose and speak out against racism, prejudice, discrimination,
malicious harassment, and designates Bainbridge Island as a community which protects,
honors and celebrates human fights.
