ORD 98-08 LIVE-ABOARD VESSELS OUTSIDE OF MARINAORDINANCE NO. 98-08
AN ORDINANCE of the City of Bainbridge Island, Washington, relating to
live-aboard vessels outside of marinas; extending to October 1, 1998, the
deadline for live-aboard vessels to come into compliance with the Shoreline
Master Program; and amending Section 3, of Ordinance No. 96-39.
WHEREAS, Ordinance No. 96-39, passed by the City Council on November 21,
1996, requires the registration of all live-aboard vessels located outside of marinas within
sixty days from the effective date of the ordinance; and
WHEREAS, Ordinance No. 96-39, requires all live-aboard vessels to be in
compliance with the Shoreline Master Program by May 1, 1998; and
WHEREAS, on January 15, 1998, the Mayor and City Council approved the
establishment of an ad-hoc live-aboard vessel committee C'Live-aboard Committee") to
address issues related to live-aboard vessels and to develop policies regarding live-aboard
vessels in the City, and to forward those policies to the City' s Harbor Management
Advisory CommitteeCHarbor Committee") and the City Council; and
WHEKEAS, the Mayor and City Council have requested the Harbor Committee to
consider the recommended policies of the Live-aboard Committee and advise if the
proposed live-aboard vessel policy can be coordinated with the Harbor Committee's
harbor management plan for the City's harbors; and
WHEREAS, the tasks described above probably will not be completed before May
1, 1998; now, therefore
THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF BAINBRIDGE ISLAND,
WASHINGTON, DO ORDAIN AS FOLLOWS:
Section 1. Section of 3, of Ordinance No. 96-39, is mended as follows:
All reSistered live-aboard vessels must be in compliance with the
Shoreline Master Program on or before October 1, 1998.
Section 2. This ordinance shall take effect and be in force five days from and
