RES 2003-55 ASSOCIATION OF BAINBRIDGE COMMUNITIES 25TH ANNIVERSARYRESOLUTION 2003-55
A RESOLUTION of the City of Bainbridge Island, Washington, recognizing and
congratulating the Association of Bainbridge Communities for its service to the
community on the 25th anniversary of its founding.
WHEREAS, The Association of Bainbridge Communities (ABC) was founded in
November, 1978, twenty five years ago; and
WHEREAS, ABC has contributed enormously to the awareness of environmental issues
affecting Bainbridge Island residents, including the cleanup of the Wyckoff creosote site and the
Vincent Road Landfill; and
WHEREAS, ABC has undertaken projects and the supervision of projects that impact
the environmental health of the island including promoting IPM policies for our schools, city,
and parks; and
(alternative: including promoting the absolute minimal use of chemicals at our schools, parks and
households, and along our roads and shorelines; and)
WHEREAS, ABC assists citizens to form neighborhood groups to effectively address
their specific concerns to protect their local environment; and
WHEREAS, ABC publishes its newsletter SCOTCH BROOM and cosponsors the annual
Bainbridge Island environmental conference to inform and alert the community about
environmental issues; and
WHEREAS, ABC has recognized citizens in the community with its annual
environmental award and published the book "In Praise of Island Stewards;" now therefore
THE MAYOR AND CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF BAINBRIDGE do
formally recognize and congratulate the Association of Bainbridge Communities for its work to
improve the island's environment on the 25th anniversary of its founding.
