RES 2008-10 BRING YOUR BAGS DAYRESOLUTION NO. 2008-10 A RESOLUTION of the City Council of the City of Bainbridge %MW Island, Washington, recognizing April 19, 2008 as `Bring Your Bags Day" on Bainbridge Island. WHEREAS, each year, twelve million barrels of oil are required to produce the 100 billion plastic bags, and thirty-five million trees are cut down to produce the 25 billion paper bags used in the United States each year; and' WHEREAS, in the United States, the EPA estimates that only one percent of plastic bags and 20 percent of paper bags in the United States are recycled, and WHEREAS, the indiscriminate littering of plastic bags is an increasing blight problem.
