RES 2014-01 AUTHORIZING PURCHASE OF GREEN POWERRESOLUTION NO, 2014 - 01
A RESOLUTION of the City Council of the City of Bainbridge Island, Washington, authorizing
the City of Bainbridge Island to purchase designated green power from the City's energy service
provider.
WHEREAS, City policy promotes sustainability, reduced fossil fuel consumption, and energy
conservation; and
WHEREAS, the City has pursued energy conservation through improved energy efficiency in
equipment, improved facilities, energy audits, and re -use of materials; and
WHEREAS, the Puget Sound Energy company has a Green Power Program which uses
customer committed funds to support the development of green power in the Puget Sound
Energy grid; and
WHEREAS, the City has encouraged residents and businesses in Bainbridge Island to
participate in the Green Power Program as a means of making wise energy purchases and
reducing the carbon footprint; and
WHEREAS, the City desires to be a good model, support the development of Green Power, and
make wise energy purchasing decisions that can protect the environment and reduce the carbon
footprint.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
BAINBRIDGE ISLAND AS FOLLOWS.
Section 1. The City of Bainbridge Island is authorized to participate in the Puget Sound Energy
Green Power Program in an amount up to $3,000.00 per year, which represents participation at a
level approximately one -third more than the percentage of participation by Island households.
The City Manager is authorized to develop the program, which will supported by the General
Fund. This authorization will be reviewed annually by the City Council,
Section 2. Ratification Any act consistent with the authority and prior to the effective date of this
Resolution is hereby ratified and affirmed.
Section 3. Severability. The provisions of this Resolution are declared separate and severable.
The invalidity of any clause, sentence, paragraph, subdivision, section, or portion of this
Resolution or the invalidity of the application thereof to any person or circumstance, shall not
affect the validity of the remainder of the Resolution, or the validity of its application to other
persons or circumstances.
Section 4. Effective Date. This Resolution shall become effective immediately upon adoption
and signature as provided by law.
