CLE ELUM, UASHINGTON
Subject: Distribution ~f State Funds to Cities and
To: Mayors and Councilmen of Every City and Town in the State
of ]fashington and to the Association .f Uashington Cities.
During the past biennium, the State of ]~rashington distributed
~22,000~000.O0 to the Cities and To~ns of the State of ~shington
as fellows:
2~ to all cities and towns
25~ to ci'~ies of over 20,000 population
25~ to cities with 5 or more policemen
25% to cities with 5 or more firemen
The members ~f the Cle Elu$ City Council feel that small cities
and towns are.being discriminated against by the above formula
for distributing state funds to the Cities and To~ms ~f the State
cf \/achington.
Ue feel that the above formula is unconstitutional and that all
monies 2hould be distributed on a per capita basis.
Since the State Legislature will meet in January, and since
they will be f~rmulating a ne~.~ budget for the next biennium,
and providing the State makes a similar a.~propriatien to the
Cities and Tc~.~ns, The Cle Elum City Counc'il ~rould appreciate
receiving an_opinion from every City. and T~wn in the State as
to how State monies should be distributed t~ the various cities
and towns in the State af Uashingto~.
The results of this poll ~;ill be presented to the State
Legislators during the 1969 session.
