A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY OF WINSLOW, WASHINGTON, SUPPORTING
THE gAINBRIDGE ISLAND SCHOOL DISTRICT'S EFFORTS TO IMPROVE
STUDENT ACCOUNTABILITY AND RESPONSIBILITY.
WHEREAS, the Council of the City of Winslow, Washington, feel the
students of Winslow and gainbridge Island are a valuable and irreplaceable
asset; and
WHEREAS, the Council of the City of Winslow feel it is in the best
interest of providing for the safety, health, and welfare of the citizens of
Winslow; and
WHEREAS, the Council of the City of Winslow wish to provide students
with the knowledge and skills to become more responsible for themselves, for
their personal safety, and for the safety of each other, and to provide
parents, other adults, and community helpers with the skills and support for
assisting students and adults to increase their level of personal
responsibility; and
WHEREAS, the Council of the City of Winslow wish to provide students
and adults a greater awareness of the consequences of alcohol use and the
resources available for dealing with those consequences, now, therefore,
THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF WINSLOW, WASHINGTON, HEREBY RESOLVE
AS FOLLOWS;
The City Council of the City of Winslow, Washington, supports the
efforts of the gainbridge Island School District to improve student
accountability and responsibility pursuant to the gainbridge Island School
District Resolution No. 2-85-86 dated November 7, 1985 (Exhibit A).

· THEREFORE, BE IT RF-qOLVED that the Pa~nbridge Island School District:
1. Ca~.~,its the use of i~ facilities and resources to provide
a) training for students in peer counseling activities such as "natural
helpers" to improve their ability to assume greater resFcr~ibility
for themselves, for each other, and for their personal safety;
b) opportunities for parents, other adults and c~m~urkity helpers to
improve their parenting and cum~qications skills with children
and with each other in support of responsible actions of the
young persons of this oa'ml~nity;
c) additional alcohol use education for students and parents, includ-
ing the availability of resources outside the family for intervention
and counseling; AND
2. Requests and encourages other interested groups and persons to join with
it in a cooperative effort.
