RES 86-01 HONORING BETTY STEELERESOLUTION NO. 86-01
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY OF WINSLOW EXPRESSING
APPRECIATION TO BETTY STEELE FOR FOUR YEARS OF
DEDICATED SERVICE TO THE CITY.
WHEREAS, serving as a member of the Winslow City Council
is a time and energy consuming function; and
WHEREAS, those who serve receive little compensation
and few other positive incentives; and
WHEREAS, Betty Steele served as a Councilmember from
January 1982 through December 1985;
NOW THEREFORE, be it resolved by the City Council of
the City of Winslow as follows:
The City of Winslow expresses its appreciation to
Betty Steele for the time and energy spent in dedicated service to
the City as a Councilmember of the City of Winslow.
PASSED by the City of Winslow this 2nd day of January, 1986.

PROCLAMATION
WHEREAS, historically and presently, women have been and are
the victims of violence in their homes; and
WHEREAS,
the National Coalition Against Domestic Violence has
declared October 12, 1986, the Sixth National Day of
Unity for battered women; and
WHEREAS,
the tragedy of domestic violence affects many families
in our state and in the City of Winslow, and these
families need the help of con~nunity programs; and
WHEREAS,
in this City the Y.W.C~A.'s ALIVE Shelter is here to
assist the victims of domestic violence and to increase
the community awareness of the problem; and
WHEREAS,
October 9th has been set as a day to locally focus
public attention on the magnitude of the problem of
more than 500 battered women who are served by the
ALIVE Program each year, and to escalate awareness
efforts to end this problem;
NOW, THEREFORE, I, ALICE TAWRESEY, MAYOR OF THE CITY OF WINSLOW,
do hereby proclaim the day of October 12, 1986, as
THE DAY OF UNITY FOR BATTERED WOMEN
and recognize October 9th as the day of commeration
and celebration in Winslow.
