RES 2015-14 SUPPORTING THE MAYORS CHALLENGE TO END VETERAN HOMELESSNESSRESOLUTION NO. 2015-14
A RESOLUTION of the City of Bainbridge Island, Washington, supporting the
Mayors Challenge to end Veteran homelessness.
WHEREAS, Opening Doors: The Federal Strategic Plan to Prevent and End
Homelessness set a bold and audacious goal to end veteran homelessness in the United Stated
before the end of 2015; and
WHEREAS, over the last three years, the federal government, states and communities
have achieved a 24 percent decrease in homelessness among veterans during a time when our
country was facing the worst recession since the Great Depression; and
WHEREAS, on June 2, 2014, the Joining Forces Initiative announced a growing
coalition of mayors, governors, and local officials working to meet the goal of ending veteran
homelessness in their communities; NOW THEREFORE,
The City of Bainbridge Island Washington supports the goals of the Mayors Challenge to
End Veteran Homelessness and is committed to ending veteran homelessness. The City Council
authorizes the Mayor to join the Mayors Challenge to end Veteran homelessness.
