RES 2000-01 ENDORSEMENT OF CENSUS TAKING ACTIVITIES ON BAINBRIDGE ISLANDRESOLUTION NO. 2000-01
A RESOLUTION of the City of Bainbridge Island, Washington,
endorsing the census -taking activities on Bainbridge Island.
WHEREAS, in this first year of the 215` Century, the United States of America
will conduct the 2151 Census since our Nation was founded; and
WHEREAS, Census -taking has been recognized as an important governmental
activity that dates back at least as far as the time of Caesar Augustus; and
WHEREAS, the accurate and successful completion of this Census -taking is of
vital economic and political importance to all residents of Bainbridge Island because it
will determine for the next decade our rightful share of state and federal monies and
equitable representation in political bodies; and
WHEREAS, as has been past practice, our Federal Government is employing
residents of Washington, Kitsap County and Bainbridge Island to assist our citizens to
assure they are fully counted; now, therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED that the Bainbridge Island City Council does hereby strongly
endorse the census -taking activities on the island; offers its full encouragement and
support for our citizens who are giving their time in behalf of all of us in this endeavor;
encourages other citizens to be involved as well; and pledges free use of public facilities
as needed and where practicable for organizational and training meetings in connection
with the census -gathering process.
