AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF WINSLOW,
WASHINGTON, ESTABLISHING A SALARY FOR THE MAYOR AND THE
MEMBERS OF THE CITY COUNCIL AND PROVIDING FOR REIMBURSE-
MENT OF EXPENSES INCURRED IN THE DISCHARGE OF THEIR
OFFICIAL DUTIES.
WHEREAS, the office of Mayor and City Councilmen is becoming
more demanding, time consuming and costly to the individuals
involved due to the increased complexity of City government and
services; and
WHEREAS, the Mayor and City Councilmen of the City of Winslow
do not receive any compensation for their services to the City
under any existing Ordinance or Statute; and
WHEREAS, the increased responsibilities of these offices
and the lack of compensation has contributed to the reluctance on
the part of the public officers to serve more than one term of
their office, to a commesurate loss of knowledgeable experience
and expertise in the areas of the City administration and government
and a lack of continuity between City administrations; and
WHEREAS, the interests of the City of Winslow would be
furthered by providing compensation to the Mayor and City Councilmen
in order to stabilize City Council membership, to strengthen the
future administrative capacity to the City, and to insure the
continued best efforts of the public officers to perform their
duties;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED, by the City Council of the
City of Winslow, Washington, as follows:
Section 1. The Mayor and members of the City Council may
be reimbursed for their actual and necessary expenses incurred in
the performance of the duties of their office, upon presentation of
a Claim therefor to the City Clerk and its allowance and approval
by the City Council.
Section 2- The Mayor shall be entitled to a salary of
ONE HUNDRED FIFTY and no/100's DOLLARS ($150.00) per calendar month.
Section 3. Members of the City Council shall receive the sum
of TWENTY and no/100's DOLLARS ($20.00) as salary, per meeting, for
not more than two Council meetings.
Section 4. The salaries provided by this Ordinance for the
Mayor and the Councilmen shall not be paid to any officer of the
City during his present term of office.
