AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF WINSLOW,
WASHINGTON, REVISING AND AMENDING
ORDINANCE NO. 148 PROVIDING FOR THE
LICENSING OF CERTAIN TYPES OF BUSINESSES
AND OCCUPATIONS AND REPEALING ORDINANCE
NO. 72-3
The City Council of the City of Winslow do ordain as
follows:
Section 1: Section 3 of Ordinance No. 148 is hereby
revised to read as follows:
"Section 3: PERSONS SUBJECT TO TAX. On or after
the effective date of this Ordinance, there is
hereby levied upon and shall be collected from and
paid, as hereinafter provided, by every person, on
account and for the privilege of engaging in business
activities within the City of Winslow, an annual
license fee or occupation tax per calendar year, or
any portion thereof, in a sum equal to the amounts
set forth for the various business activities as
classified in the following schedule:
CLASS 1. SIXTY DOLLARS ($60.00) PER YEAR:
Auto Parts
Auto Sales (new and used)
Banking and Finance (except as exempt by law)
Building Materials
Catalog Stores
Clothing Stores
Contractors
Drug Stores
Dry Cleaning Establishments
Florists and Nurseries
Food Service
Funeral Homes
Furniture and appliances
Grocery Stores
Hardware
Interior Decorators
Jewelry Stores
Manufacturing and Processing
Mobile Home Parks
Radio and TV Sales and Service
Service Stations
Shoe Stores
Taverns
Travel Agencies
Utilities
Variety Stores
CLASS 2. FORTY DOLLARS ($40.00) PER YEAR:
Accountants
Architects
Attorneys
Dentists
Doctors
Engineers
Insurance Agents and Brokers
Mortgage and Escrow Agencies
Real Estate Agents and Brokers
Rooming house and/or hotel or motel and/or apartment
houses except duplexes consisting of not more than
two units.
Veterinarians
CLASS 3. THIRTY DOLLARS ($30.00) PER YEAR:
All other business activities except those expressly
enumerated in Class 1, 2, 4, 5 or 6.
CLASS 4. TWENTY DOLLARS ($20.00) PER YEAR:
Individually operated part time home owned or domestic
occupations.
CLASS 5. TWENTY DOLLARS ($20.00) PER YEAR:
Businesses located outside the corporate limits of the
City of Winslow which make regular retail sales and
deliveries or engage in the sale of consumer services
within the City of Winslow.
CLASS 6. TEN DOLLARS ($10.00) PER YEAR:
All businesses located within the City of Winslow but
not doing business on Bainbridge Island."
Section 2: Section 5 of Ordinance 148 is amended
read as follows:
'~Section 5: BUSINESS LICENSE REQUIRED: The 'Business
License' referred to herein shall expire on the 31st
day of December in the year issued and a new license
shall be required for each year. A new applicant shall
pay for the license fee applicable to his classification
which payment may be on a quarterly basis if the
applicant so elects.
Applications for the licenses shall be made to and
issued by the City Clerk of the City of Winslow on
forms provided by the Clerk, on which shall be stated
the residence of the applicant, the nature of his
business or business activity in which he desires to
engage and the place where it is proposed to be con-
ducted. If the City Clerk shall find the application
to be correct, the license shall be issued upon payment
of the required fee.
The license issued hereunder shall be personal and
non-transferable, and shall at all times be con-
spicuously posted in the place of business for which
it is issued.
Where a place of business of the taxpayer is changed,
the taxpayer shall return the license to the City
Clerk and a new license shall be issued for the new
place of business without charge for said transfer.
In case business is transacted at two or more separate
places by one person within the City of Winslow, a
separate license for each place in which business is
transacted with the public shall be required in
accordance with said classification.
No person to whom a license has been issued pursuant
to this Ordinance shall permit or allow any other
person to operate any business under or display his
license; nor shall such other person operate under or
display such license.
Section 3: REPEAL OF ORDINANCE NO. 72-3. City of
Winslow Ordinance N'o. 72-3 adopted February 7, 1972, relating
to licensing of home occupations, is hereby repealed.
Section 4: EFFECTIVE DATE. This Ordinance shall become
in full effect on ~anuary 1, 1974 but publication in the manner
required by law shall be commenced immediately.
