AN ORDINANCE PROHIBITING HITCHHIKING AND PRO-
HIBITING MOTORISTS FROM STOPPING TO OFFER RIDES
TO HITCHHIKERS ON OLYMPIC WAY AND HIGHWAY 305
The City Council of the Winslow do ordain as follows:
The City Council finds that the slowing and stopping of
motor vehicles for hitchhikders on Olympic Way and Highway 305
in the City of Winslow creates a hazard and inconvenience to
others using the roadway. The Council further finds that motor
vehicles cannot safely stop off the main traveled portion of the
roadway on Olympic Way and Highway 305 in the City of Winslow.
Section 1. No person shall stand in or along Olympic Way
or Highway 305 in the City of Winslow for the purpose of
soliciting a ride for himself or for another from the occupant
of another vehicle.
Section 2. No person operating a motor vehicle shall stop
his or her vehicle on Olympic Way or Highway 305 within the City
of Winslow for the purpose of offering a ride to any person.
Section 3. The chief of police is authorized and directed
to cooperate with the state agencies having jurisdiction over
Highway 305 in order to erect signs along Olympic Way and High-
way 305 giving notice of this ordinance.
Section 4. Violation of this ordinance shall be a mis-
demeanor punishable in municipal court by fine up to $500 or jail
up to 6 months or both.
Section 5. This ordinance shall be effective when the signs
are posted pursuant to Section 3.
