RES 2003-06 PUBLIC INFORMATION PROCESS FOR RELAYING INFORMATIONRESOLUTION NO. 2003-06
A RESOLUTION of the City of Bainbridge Island, Washington, relating
to a process for relay of information to press and other media, that
will insure accuracy of information, promote understanding of issues, and
inform City Officials and City staff, as well as citizens, to foster effective
communication and coordination within the City organization.
WHEREAS, the City Council wishes to develop policy directing individual public communication
in project plans, as stated in the City of Bainbridge Island's Goals and Objectives, 2003, Goal 4:
communications, B; and
WHEREAS, the City Council wishes to improve support of committees, commissions and
councils which work at the behest of, and on behalf of the City, as stated in the City of Bainbridge Island's
Goals and Objectives, 2003, Goal 4: Communications, D; and
WHEREAS, the City Council wishes to establish policy for clear, consistent and accurate
information in City press releases to promote understanding of issues to further trust and accountability
within the City organization and the community as a whole; the most accurate information is found at the
source; and
WHEREAS, the City's communications shall further establish cooperation and support equally
with all available media, by showing no favoritism to any one organization or individual with what or how
City information is offered;
NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF BAINBRIDGE ISLAND,
WASHINGTON, does resolve as follows:
Section 1. All information coming from City committees, commissions and councils that relates
to its work projects, policies, or individual members, must first be approved by the chair of that body to
insure accurate representation of the subject. Any individual members who are quoted or mentioned by
name shall be notified prior to release of the information, and given the opportunity to confirm their
position.
Section 2. All information shall be posted on the City's official web site prior to being relayed to
any outside media source.
Section 3. City information shall be offered simultaneously to all media sources, no favoritism
shall be shown.
