RES 2003-36 DETERMINING TIMEFRAME FOR APPOINTING COMMISSION MEMBERSRESOLUTION NO. 2003-36
A RESOLUTION of the City of Bainbridge Island, Washington
that determines the timeframe for appointing members to City of
Bainbridge Island's Commissions.
WHEREAS, the City of Bainbridge Island has various official commissions that
perform a variety of functions for the City; and
WHEREAS, these commissions are made up of citizen volunteers with positions
with predetermined term limits; and
WHEREAS, the City values the work and support it receives from these
commissions, relying on their recommendations and findings to pursue decisions on
legislation for the City; and
WHEREAS, it is necessary for City commissions to be kept fully seated to fulfill
their deliberation obligations, offer a balanced perspective on issues, share the
commission workload, and maintain a quorum to convene their meetings; and
WHEREAS, the mayor and the City has been granted the authority to appoint the
City's official commissions, after approval by the City Council for the City.
NOW THERFORE BE IT RESOLVED official City commission vacancies
shall be confirmed no later than eight weeks beyond the date of the vacated commission
seat, unless granted an exception. No exception shall result in a commission's inability to
maintain a quorum.
