ORD 2005-31 ETHICS PROGRAM ADDED TO BIMC 2.07
ORDINANCE NO. 2005-31
AN ORDINANCE relating to the establishment of an ethics program for elected officials;
directing the City Council to establish an ethics program for elected
officials; and adding a new chapter, Chapter 2.07, "Ethics Program," and
adding new Sections 2.07.010, all of the City of Bainbridge Island
Municipal Code.
WHEREAS, it is recognized that good government is based on public trust; and
WHEREAS, high ethical standards contribute to the effectiveness of government
officials, and increase mutual trust and respect between these government representatives and the
pub lic; and
WHEREAS, it is desired that the City Council of Bainbridge Island be specifically
authorized to adopt by resolution an ethics program for elected officials to foster a culture of
ethical behavior that helps to maintain and strengthen public trust and confidence in the
government of the City of Bainbridge Island; now, therefore,
THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF BAINBRIDGE ISLAND,
,~ ASHINGTON, DO ORDAIN AS FOLLOWS:
Section 1. Chapter 2.07 and Sections 2.07.010 are hereby enacted as a new chapter and
new sections of the City of Bainbridge Island Municipal Code to read as follows:
Chapter 2.07
ETHICS PROGRAM
2.07.010.
City Council shall establish ethics program.
The City Council shall establish by resolution or ordinance an ethics
program for elected officials of the City of Bainbridge Island.
Section 2. This ordinance shall be in full force and effect five days after its passage,
approval, and publication as provided by law.
