RES 2004-16 WALLACE WAY SIDEWALKSRESOLUTION NO. 2004-16
A RESOLUTION of the City of Bainbridge Island,
Washington approving the installation of a 7' sidewalk on
the north side and bike lanes on both sides of Wallace Way
from Ericksen Avenue to Madison Avenue.
WHEREAS, Wallace Way Sidewalks is a capital project identified in the City's
Capital Facilities Plan (CFE) of the Comprehensive Plan; and
WHEREAS, Funding for this project are secured by the 2004 Budget under
Public Works Capital Projects, page III -67; and
WHEREAS, In order to facilitate a community process as set forth in the Non -
motorized Transportation Plan to determine which side of the street the sidewalk and/or
bikelane should be on or both sides, an open house was held on May 11, 2004 to receive
public comment; and
WHEREAS, A dozen citizens attended the open house and nine comment sheets
were received from attendees and comment sheets were received from citizen who didn't
attend the open house, and
WHEREAS, The results from the Open House favor a 7' sidewalk located on the
north side and bike lane on both sides of the streets; and
WHEREAS, Having evaluated public input, Public Works Engineering
recommends installing seven foot (7') sidewalks on the north side of Wallace Way that
combine straight and meandering sections and bike lanes on both sides of the street; and
WHEREAS, This recommendation complies with the Non Motorized
Transportation Plan, Comprehensive Plan, and the Winslow Master Plan; and
WHEREAS, at it's meeting of May 18, 2004, the Non -motorized Advocacy
Committee supported this recommendation with the provision that the design not
preclude the future installation of a sidewalk on the south side of the street, and
NOW THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF BAINBRIDGE
ISLAND DOES HEREBY RESOLVE:
1. That this resolution is considered the implementation plan for the installation of a 7'
sidewalk on the north side and bike lanes on both sides of Wallace Way between
Ericksen Avenue and Madison Avenue.
