A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY OF BAINBRIDGE ISLAND,
WASHINGTON RECOMMENDING AN INCREASE IN THE
WASHINGTON STATE'S TAX ON MOTOR VEHICLE FUEL.
IN SI PPORT OF FERRY OPERATIONS.
NN'HFIZEAS, Article II. Section 40 of the Washington State Constitution finds that "all

NN'HEIZEAS, Article II. Section 40(b) of the Washington State Constitution finds that

WHEREAS. the repeal of the Washington State motor vehicle excise tax, has placed in
e�11)ardv the smooth operation of the Washington State Ferry system; and
NN'IlFBEAS, the City Council linds that the smooth operation of the Washington State
I]• v systcm is essential to the economic health of all communities west of Puget Sound,
ins hiding theCity of Bainbridge Island; and
NN'HEREAS, the City Council has determined that a relatively small increase in
hinglon State's excise tax on motor vehicle fuel of less than five cents per gallon would be
, licient to hilly hind the Washington State Ferry system; now, therefore,

M )FS RESOLVE AS FOLLOWS:
Pile Cit of Bainbridge Island strongly urges the Legislature of the State of Washington to
enact an increase in Washington State's excise tax on motor vehicle fuel sufficient to provide
for the operational and capital needs of the Washington State Ferry system.
PASSED by the City Council this I l" day of April 2001.
