RES 2010-08 SETTING A SPEED LIMIT OF 20 MPH -ON NORTH TOWN DRIVE NE & NE NORTH TOWN LOOPRESOLUTION NO, 2010-08
RESOLUTION' of the City of Bainbridge Island,.
Washington, ' setting a speed ' limit of 20 mph -on North
Town Erie NE and NE North Ton Loop.
WHEREAS, City Council mem ers : and- City Staff received numerous requests in
the past few years from citizens to reduce the speed limit along all- or portions of North
Town Drive NE and NE North Town Loop; and
WHEREAS, City Council members and City staff received a request from the
North Town WoodsHomeowner's Association that the speed limit be reduced from 2
mph to 20 mph on North Town Drive e N and NE North Town Loop; and
WHEREAS, North Town Thrive NE and NE North Town Loop are -classified as
residential urban roads that serve approximately 70 properties with an existing un-poted
speed limit of 25 mph; and
WHEREAS, the City. Engineer initiated an independent engineering study of the
existing conditions and safety on portions of North Town Drive NE in accordance with
the standards outlined in the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices ices MUTC ; and
WHEREAS, the independent study report entitled "North Town woods
Neighborhood Speed Study" was completed on December 22, 200 9; and
WHEREAS, the study recommends maintaining the existing speed limit of 2
ph on North Town Drive NE and NE North Town Loop; and
WHEREAS, the City Council may elect to reduce the speed limit to 20 mph on
Forth Town Drive NE and NE Forth Town Loop; and
WHEREAS, the Citi. Council is the Local Agency with authority to establish
maximum speed limits in accordance with WAC 308-330 and RCW 46.04; and
WHEREAS, the City Council has reviewed the speed study and considered
public comment; now, therefore,
THE CITY COUNCIL of THE CITY of BAINBRIDGE ISLAND DOES
RESOLVE AS FOLLOWS,
Section 1. In accordance with the Washington Model Traffic ordinance, Chapter
308-330 adopted ted y BIMC 10.04.010, the City Council establishes a speed limit on North
Town Drive NE and NE Forth Town Loop of 20 mph.
Section 2. Public Works will install 20 mph speed limit signage on North Town
Drive NE and NE North Town Loop in accordance with the MTC.
