A JOINT RESOLUTION OF THE CITY OF BAINBRIDGE ISLAND AND THE BAINBRIDGE
ISLAND METROPOLITAN PARK & RECREATION DISTRICT NAMING THE BAINBRIDGE
ISLAND JAPANESE AMERICAN EXCLUSION MEMORIAL
WHEREAS, on May 8, 2008 the Consolidated Natural Resources Act of 2008 (Public Law 110 -229)
designated the Bainbridge Island Japanese American Memorial as a unit of the Minidoka Internment National
Monument; and
WHEREAS, the real property where that Memorial is located is owned jointly by the City of Bainbridge
Island and the Bainbridge Island Metropolitan Park & Recreation District; and
WHEREAS, the design, construction and maintenance of the Memorial has been guided and managed by the
Bainbridge Island Japanese American Exclusion Memorial Association; and
WHEREAS, it is the desire of that Association, of the Bainbridge Island Japanese American Community,
and of the survivors of the exclusion of members of our community during World War II that the Memorial name
expressly acknowledge the exclusion experience;
NOW THEREFORE BE IT JOINTLYRESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Bainbridge Island
and by the Board of Commissioners of the Bainbridge Island Metropolitan Park & Recreation District, Kitsap County,
Washington, that the formal name of the Memorial henceforth be the Bainbridge Island Japanese American Exclusion
Memorial.
