ORD 2000-53 GENERAL TAX LEVYORDINANCE NO. 2000-53
AN ORDINANCE of the City of Bainbridge Island, Washington,
confirming the levying of general taxes for the City of Bainbridge
Island, in Kitsap County, for the fiscal year commencing January 1,
2000, on all real and personal property within the City, that is subject
to taxation for the purpose of providing sufficient revenue to carry on
the normal activities of the City for the ensuing year as, required by
law.
WHEREAS, the City Council of Bainbridge Island has considered the financial
requirements of the City for 2000 as set forth in the Mayor's Preliminary Budget, and the
amounts necessary and available to be raised by ad valorem taxes on real, personal, and
utility property which are included therein; and
WHEREAS, the City Council of Bainbridge Island has properly given notice of
the public hearing held on October 7, 1999, to consider the City's revenue sources for the
City's 2000 current expense budget; and
WHEREAS, the City Council of Bainbridge Island after hearing and duly
considering all relevant evidence and testimony presented, has determined that the City
requires, and finds that there is substantial need for, an increase in property tax revenue
from the previous year, in-addition to the increase resulting from the addition of new
construction and improvements to property and any increase in the value of state-assessed
property, in order to discharge the expected expenses and obligations of the City and in
its best interest; now, therefore
THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF BAINBRIDGE ISLAND, DOES
ORDAIN AS FOLLOWS:
Section 1. The 1999 property tax levy for collection in 2000 is confirmed to be
$3,173,207 (the amount levied in 1998 for collection in 1999) plus an increase of
$ 864, 352, which i s an increase of twenty- seven and twenty-four one -hundredths (27.24)
percent (which increase is not greater than the amount the City could levy under RCW
84.55.092) plus an increase equal to the amount allowed under the new construction
provisions of RCW 84.55.010
Section 2. This ordinance shall be certified to the proper Kitsap County officials,
as provided by law. The taxes levied in this ordinance shall be collected and paid to
the Director of Finance and Administrative Services of the City of Bainbridge Island at
the time and in the manner provided by the laws of the State of Washington for the
collection of taxes for non-charter code cities.
Section 3. This ordinance shall take effect and be in force on and after five days
from its passage, approval and publication as required by law.
