ORD NO. 2017-06 COMMUNITY POLICINGORDINANCE NO. 2017-06 AN ORDINANCE of the City of Bainbridge Island, Washington, relating to Community Policing. WHEREAS, on February 14, 2017, the City Council adopted Resolution No. 2017-09, affirming that the City of Bainbridge Island is a Welcoming and Inclusive City that respects the fundamental human dignity of all people; now, therefore, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF BAINBRIDGE ISLAND, WASHINGTON, DOES ORDAIN AS FOLLOWS: Section 1. Immigrant Status Information. A. Unless required by law or court order, no City of Bainbridge Island Police Department officer or employee shall inquire into the immigration status or nationality of any person, or engage in activities designed to ascertain the immigration status or nationality of any person. B. The Bainbridge Island Police Department shall not investigate, arrest, or detain any person based solely on immigration status or nationality. C. The Bainbridge Island Police Department shall maintain policies consistent with this section. Section 2. Effective Date. This ordinance shall take effect and be in force five (5) days from its passage, approval, and publication as required by law. PASSED BY THE CITY COUNCIL this 21st day of February, 2017.
