RES NO. 2018-32 RELATING TO ABCRESOLUTION NO. 2018-32
A RESOLUTION of the City of Bainbridge Island, Washington,
recognizing and congratulating the Association of Bainbridge
Communities for its service to the community on the 40`7 anniversary
of its founding.
WHEREAS, the Association of Bainbridge Communities ("ABC") was founded in
November 1978, forty years ago; and
WHEREAS, ABC has contributed enormously to the awareness of environmental issues
affecting Bainbridge Island residents, including the cleanup of the Wyckoff creosote site leading to
the acquisition of Pritchard Park; and
WHEREAS, ABC has assisted neighborhood organizations in preserving the environment,
including saving the Grand Forest, limiting development of Port Blakely Tree Farms, and cleaning
up the Vincent Road Landfill; and
WHEREAS, ABC has worked to improve and extend the Waterfront Trail to provide
residents and visitors public access to the shoreline of Winslow; and
WHEREAS, ABC, working with municipal organizations, has implemented Integrated Pest
Management policies for our schools, parks, and city to provide healthy public places; and
WHEREAS, ABC has provided important historical records through its publications, such
as its newsletter Scotch Broom and book In Praise of Island Stewards; and
WHEREAS, ABC has joined with other island groups to cosponsor the Annual ABC
Environmental Conference on important subjects affecting the community and to select the
Environmentalist of the Year; and
WHEREAS, ABC has frequently spoken up for saving trees from being clearcut, especially
along Scenic Highway 305; and
WHEREAS, ABC reviews and comments on land use legislation and applications which
affect the environment.
NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF BAINBRIDGE ISLAND
DOES RESOLVE AS FOLLOWS:
The Mayor and the City Council of the City of Bainbridge Island do formally recognize and
congratulate the Association of Bainbridge Communities for its work to preserve and improve the
island's environment on the 40th anniversary of its founding.
