AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF BAINBRIDGE ISLAND,
WASHINGTON, AMENDING CHAPTER 1.24 OF THE
BAINBRIDGE ISLAND MUNICIPAL CODE, REGARDING
GENERAL PENALTIES, AND ESTABLISHING AN EFFECTIVE
DATE.
WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Bainbridge Island, Washington, deems it to
be in the interest of the City to amend Chapter 1.24 of the Bainbridge Island Municipal Code
by differentiating between civil and criminal penalties, and adopting civil penalties; now,
therefore,
THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF BAINBRIDGE ISLAND,
WASHINGTON, DO ORDAIN AS FOLLOWS:
Section 1. Section 1.24.010 of the Bainbridge Island Municipal Code is amended as
follows:
Section 1.24.010 General penalty-ies.--
A. Criminal Penalty. Unless otherwise provided. ~
person violating any of the provisions or failing to comply with any of the
mandatory requirements of this code or any ordinance of the city shall be guilty_
of a misdemeanor and shall be punished by a fine not to exceed $500.00 or by
imprisonment not to exceed six months or by both such fine and imprisonment
for each day that the violation occurs.
Civil Penalty.. Any person violating any of the provisions of this
code or any ordinance of the city which is designated a civil offense
or civil violation shall have committed a civil infraction. Unless
otherwise provided, any person committing a civil infraction shall be
assessed a monetary penalty not to exceed $500.00 for each day that
the violation occurs.

Section 2. This ordinance shall take effect and be in force five days from and after its
passage, approval and publication as required by law.
