RES 2001-24 KITSAP TRANSIT'S PROPOSITION NO. 1 BALLOT MEASURERESOLUTION NO 2001-24 A RESOLUTION of the City Council of the City of Bainbridge Island, Washington expressing support of Kitsap Transit's Proposition No. I to be placed on the ballot May 15, 2001. WHEREAS, Bainbridge Island is heavily dependent on Kitsap Transit to provide commuter bus service to the Bainbridge Island ferry terminal, shuttle routes through downtown, and ACCESS service throughout the Island; and WHEREAS, Kitsap Transit has experienced an annual loss of $10.3 million in 2000 and 2001, or 42°/0 of the agency's annual budget, due to state reductions in the public transportation budget; and WHEREAS, ridership and revenues have dropped significantly with the service reductions resulting from the budget cuts; and WHEREAS, Kitsap Transit is proposing an increase of 3/10 of one percent in the local sales tax to restore bus service and ticket prices to the 1999 levels, expand service throughout the Island, purchase low -pollution buses, and add new park and ride spaces; and WHEREAS, Kitsap Transit's proposal will improve the quality of life on Bainbridge Island by reducing traffic congestion, reducing demand for parking spaces near the ferry terminal, maintaining air quality, and providing a broader range of transportation options to Island residents. NOW "THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF BAINBRIDGE ISLAND DOES RESOLVE AS FOLLOWS: percent. Section 1. To endorse Kitsap Transit's Proposition No. 1 to increase the sales tax by 3/10 of one PASSED by the City Council this 9' day of May 2001. APPROVED by the Mayor this 10' day of May 2001.
