RES 2001-55 SUPPORT OF PROP.1 ON NOV 6, 2001 BALLOT REGARDING 911 FACILITYRESOLUTION NO. 2001-55 A RESOLUTION of the City of Bainbridge Island, Washington, supporting Proposition No.1, on the November 6, 2001 General Election ballot in Kitsap County; providing for a five year tax lid -lift that will allow replacement of our present countywide 911 facility, including replacement of systems that are functionally obsolete; and, construction of an expanded facility to support the mission of the 911 program. WHEREAS, it is essential that Bainbridge Island 911 emergency communications be reliable during significant events such as earthquakes, terrorism, fires or other natural disasters, and; WHEREAS, reliable emergency communications are absolutely essential for the coordination between Bainbridge Island agencies and countywide fire, medical and law enforcement agencies, and WHEREAS, the Bainbridge Island City Council believes that the present 911 Center is housed in an undersized facility that is at high risk of extensive structural failure and possible collapse during an earthquake, and; WHEREAS, the Bainbridge Island City Council recognizes that the present 911 countywide system cannot accommodate the requirements stemming from continuing growth of emergency communication needs by all countywide essential agencies, NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Bainbridge Island City Council hereby acknowledges our support and commitment to passage of Proposition No. 1 on the November 6, 2001 General Election ballot, providing for a lid -lift increase in the regular property tax levy of 16 cents per $1,000 of assessed valuation for five years to fund the $10.5 million needed for the design, engineering and construction of an adequate, safe and secure 911 Center.
